Travis Pastrana on Red Bull New Year. No Limits

Client: Red Bull North America

Live New Years Eve feat performed on ESPN

Challenge:

Create the ideal environment and course for athlete Travis Pastrana to  jump a Subaru Impreza STi rally car from a pier onto a floating landing

Story:

Each year from 2007 to 2012 a live TV special was planned to showcase one or more special athletic feats.  Each feat was unique in that it featured not only a world record attempt, but also significant technical challenges that had never been meet before.  The 2010 version was housed in downtown Long Beach, California – running through one of the busiest tourist areas on the waterfront.

Our production team first tested at a secret California location for several months and then – after proof of concept – designed and built a special course for Pastrana.  The vehicle runway on land culminated at a take off ramp on the Pine Ave pier in Shoreline Village.  After taking off and flying over 250’ across the water, the car had to safely land on a giant barge-based landing.

In addition to athlete and crew safety measures (both on land and on water), the production also had to prepare for a capacity crowd of some 75,000 people along the waterfront and in Shoreline Aquatic Park.

Travis Pastrana safely flew 269’ in his car before jumping out, running up the landing ramp and doing a backflip into the Long Beach harbor.

Golden Road Brewing Beerland Tour

Client: Golden Road Brewing

Watch TV and Drink Beer with 300 Friends

Challenge:

Coordinate a 6-stop national tour to support a weekly TV show about the California-based Golden Road brand.

Story:

The Founder of Golden Road Brewing was invited to appear in a TV show on the Viceland Network, to showcase home brewers, called ‘Beerland’.  The show focused on 6 cities – Santa Fe, New York, San Francisco, Denver, Honolulu, Los Angeles — and their brewing communities. The concept for the Beerland Tour was to premiere the show in each of the 6 cities on the same day that it would air nationally.

With a tight budget, a tough routing and short timeline the choice of location became critical. Each Beerland venue had to host 300+ people, feature an outdoor setting, pour only Golden Road beer, offer a sit-down space for a homebrew seminar and also give the whole audience an opportunity to enjoy the show plus a Q&A session with Golden Road’s Founder.

Utilizing branded bar games, iconic California imagery, a custom traveling bar and quality A/V, the showcase events were dovetailed into such diverse venues as a Santa Fe garden setting and a New York City office building.  Despite some significant weather challenges (snow, rain wind) the events all presented the attendees a unique opportunity to commune with the brand and be the first in the nation to view each week’s episode.

Client: Field and Stream Magazine

National Outdoor Skills Competition

Challenge:

Create an event to bring Field and Stream’s annual skills editorial to life and find the outdoorsman with the best all-around skill set.

Story:

Total Outdoorsman Challenge started out as an invitation only event but grew into a national search open to thousands of outdoorsmen and women vying for the Total Outdoorsman crown.  Eventual finalists competed in a variety of outdoor disciplines ranging from archery, rifle, shotgun, fishing and ATV handling. The finals were televised on the Outdoor Channel.

Part of the event included an activation for ‘everyman’ to test his skills as part of a retail activation with Bass Pro Shops. The first round of competition was open to everyday consumers across all of Bass Pro’s stores. The top scores from each store were then whittled down to regional competition where the top 2 competitors would get a ticket to the televised finals.

Each year new ways were conceived to feature partner products in the event, yet maintain the integrity of a true competition. Companies like Diamond Archery, Wolverine Boots, Gamo Air Rifles, and Bass Pro brand fishing rods saw an uptick in sales at each location as the consumers participating in the event were able to ‘test drive’ the equipment and like what they experienced.

Red Bull Hart Lines

CLIENT: Red bull north america

Unique Skate Competition in Downtown Detroit

CHALLENGE:

Hold a world class, televised skate event in an illegal downtown skate spot.

STORY:

In the spring of 2015, States and Kingdom was asked to produce a new skateboarding concept for Red Bull. The idea was based on an event concept by athlete Ryan Sheckler, where speed and skate skills both played a part.

The challenge for the production of Red Bull Hart Lines is that it was to be played out in its namesake location – Hart Plaza in downtown Detroit. As skateboarding is currently illegal in Hart Plaza, the production team had to procure some special permissions from the City of Detroit to allow the event to even take place.

The event utilized the existing urban landscape along with some creative additions by California Ramp Works, allowing for 2 distinct lines to be created.

Despite some challenging midwest weather, more than 4,000 people got to enjoy a fast-paced competition where young ripper Curren Caples took the win….and a brand new Dodge Challenger SRT!
